The Valle d’Aosta Contemporary Art Prize, born from the synergy established between the Castello Gamba - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Fort of Bard, directed respectively by Viviana Maria Vallet and Ornella Badery, aims to promote contemporary creativity and to acquire the winning works.
Organised by the Department of Education, Culture and Identity Policies of the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta, through the Department of the Superintendency for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Prize is intended for women artists, men artists and artistic collectives, who will be invited to engage with the history and environment of Valle d’Aosta and interpret them through their own artistic language.
A Prize conceived above all to give space to the best and most interesting creativity of our time, ultimately aimed at acquiring the winning works, which will enrich the art collection of the Gamba Museum.
The Prize, held every two years, is by invitation only.
For the first edition, the theme will be Landscape: between contemplation and resource.
The requested interpretation must take into account a broad meaning of landscape, understood as “beloved space”, and therefore without distinction between the anthropic and natural environment. Landscape as a place of truth taught to us by nature, made of wonder, but also of conflict for survival; a landscape that becomes a place of the self and a shared territory, where the individual becomes sociality and community, between self-defence and desire for the other. The territory as a place to be defended, but also to be shared, between permeability and identity, leading to dialogue, exchange, sharing and aggregation.
